Jesse Proteau (aka Zagata) is a multidisciplinary singer songwriter who first caught the public’s attention as a finalist on the sixth season of the popular show La Voix. He went on to make his mark on Quebec’s music scene under the name Zagata, earning major radio success and millions of streams on digital platforms. His breakout hit Lies with DJ Domeno (SOCAN Song of the Year 2018) was followed by FAIRPLAY (#1 ADISQ Correspondant) and ALLEYS (#1 BDS ADISQ) in collaboration with Kain in 2019. He returned in full force in June 2020 with MINUIT TROP TARD (featuring Souldia), which also racked up millions of plays.

In 2024, he released his debut album Balle Courbe, featuring collaborations with artists such as Koriass, Rymz, Souldia, and Farfadet. That same year, he received a Gold certification for Minuit trop tard and achieved major radio success with Take Me Away (My Love) alongside Mike Demero.

On October 10, 2025, he unveils Quitte ou double, a second album that’s both personal and unifying. Guided by a search for balance between career, family, love, and self, he explores what truly matters through a blend of styles that reflect his identity. The record also features standout collaborations, including with Clodelle, Statzz, and Marieme.
