LAURENCE CASTERA UNVEILS HIS NEW ALBUM « LES CHOSES QUI NOUS LIAIENT »

Québec, april 21st 2026 –  Laurence Castera’s new album took its time. Seven years after the release of his last record, he now unveils Les choses qui nous liaient, an opus where intuitive and raw creation takes center stage.

The artist, who has always presented a folk sound rooted in rock and captured live, wanted to push this recording approach even further on this project. With only a few microphones scattered around a room, he surrounded himself with talented musicians to create songs that could almost be seen as demos. On a careful listen, small surprises can be heard throughout the album: a passing train, a laugh, a tambourine added at the end of a song where there was none before. Most of these live recordings ultimately made their way directly onto the album. Unconsciously, Laurence has created a work that completely refuses to align with the rise of AI and its beige perfection.

“This is an album I wanted to be imperfect”

Sonically, Laurence Castera drew inspiration from artists like Junip and José González, who often use overdriven classical guitars to dirty up the mix and give the songs more character. It was also important for him that the songs follow a certain pattern: in almost every track, there are repetitive and meditative moments.

“I feel less shy about saying things now”

Lyrically, the album is more self-assured than ever. Addressing breakups experienced in relationships with both parents and friends, the songs carry a measured sense of anger.

Co-produced with Salomé Leclerc, the album reached the raw quality that defines Les choses qui nous liaient. Musicians Charles Blondeau, Pierre-Olivier Gagnon, and Camille Gélinas also contributed to the project, with Pierre Girard on mixing and Benoît Fecteau on mastering.
